Winchester, the logistics of a registry like that in the US would be overwhelming and unworkable. It could well be one of the largest consumer of resources in the US.
Same with the annual mental checkup.
Banning private sales would be unamerican and that would not fly.
I see no way to put anything back in Pandora's box. Once it's out, it stays out, forever.
We keep going at guns, when guns are merely the tool.
Criminal control is the issue. but guns, in lawful hands, are a much easier target. That's why gun control gets all this play and not criminal control. criminals are impossible to control until they are caught.
But law abiding people, just go along. Also, IIRC, gun control has never resulted in an actual reduction in violent crime. Crime generally stays the same or rises. suicides same thing.
Gun control is aimed directly at the law abiding and not criminals. There is no proof that gun control achieves much of anything except outrageous expense and criminalizing law abiding people.
