Just like confiscated weed, I wonder how much winds back up on the streets?

Actually I'm more inclined to think it's a transfer of guns, that people don't use or don't want, to people that will use or do want. Lucky for them there were people willing to give them more money and save them a lot of time standing in line.

I just pointed out how funny it is. I would have loved to be there to see that.

It was like a meat market for guns. Imagine someone standing in line holding a Colt M1911A (similar to the pistol pic in the article) and the police only giving them $100 for it. Now imagine some gun collector/reseller, knowing the real value of that gun, walking up to them telling them they will give them $200 or $250 for it (which is still a bargain as some of them easily sell for over $1,000 used) but more than the police would give them. You can take it from there.
