Another glaring social failure of unregulated capitalism.

Authorities being stripped of funding during depressions and actually promoting violence and fear.

But the police in all capitalist systems only actually exist to protect the upper classes anyway.

Cops are not there to protect you. This was established decades ago by the Supreme Court. Their duty is to use their discretion to enforce the law.

so yes, arm thyself.

Going by this exposition, if an officer is contacted by a citizen who is reporting themselves in danger and the officer doesn't respond or ignores, they can be sued. A good example was the case with Jeff Dahmer in Milwaukee. When a young laotian boy was seen running naked and bleeding down the street and Dahmer behind him, and they let both go because Dahmer used a "gay spat" excuse (the boy could not speak English) and they were homophobic. The Milwaukee police department was in very deep doo-doo over that one, especially with that boy's and later boy's families.

Of course police have discretion and some immunity. But that doesn't preclude them from doing their jobs.

Also, I never intended to say police participate in economic policy. But they certainly do "serve" the wealthy in society far more than the underprivileged.

I will have to agree that yes, unfortunately, the police fail in what should be their primary duty, and are backed up by the government. Hence my original statement that the police mainly serve the wealthy.

All I have to say about the news you offered about those two cops involved with Dahmer is, if I was a parent of that kid or later kids who were killed by Dahmer after that happened, I'd go after those cops myself, and nothing would protect them. They may as well have been Dahmer's accomplices.
