Seems there's more to it than that.
He lost his bid to ban large drinks, too. He's on a losing streak.
I love it.

It is rare to find such a glaring example of the dangers of government. For those out there complaining about why we can't agree on "reasonable" change, this guy is one of the reasons. He doubles down on reasonable, then doubles down on extreme. He's an authoritarian with a heart of gold. He just wants to rule you with an iron fist for your own well being.

here's the issue that anti-gun folks face.
yeah there are plenty of people who want more gun control, but there's lots of stuff they care about a lot more.
BUT for a sizable chunk of the population protecting the 2nd Amendment is a very important issue.
One side is a hell of a lot more motivated than the other.

Once the emotional shock about these mass murders has passed people will realize that the gun control issue has been nothing but a knee jerk reaction centered on stupidity. Im glad to see that at least on this issue people have started to think again.

The 2nd doesn't protect a right to bear arms for felons so that's that's utter BS. The 2nd amendment only protects law abiding citizens. The expansive police state is targeting citizens as if they were criminals and that is the problem.
This factor only punctuates the necessity of preserving the right to preserve one's bodily integrity to a free society. Drugs should be legal and the police should be unarmed and there wouldn't be any problems like this.
Police tactics only escalate the violence 9 out of 10 times. That is all justification for increasing militancy they need.
