some humans will become part of a single hive, but obviously others will take no part in it. however, i don't foresee a future of extreme castes even with this; more like, everyone is the hive and the hive is everyone. i think technology will rapidly increase our evolution and divergence to a point where other human beings are as alien as we expect aliens from other planets to be, and i don't think this is thousands of years from now but hundreds. still, difficult to really even think about what life will be like after the singularity, but i do think the article i linked above will play a part in the singularity itself
