depends on size, obviously, and estimated impact point. a tungunska sized meteor headed for NYC would give reason to go nudge it because it could obliterate the city
interestingly, because the early detection systems point at the horizon to look for ballistic missiles and this was not detected by the russians at all, shows what an advantage it would be to have space based platforms for bombarding your enemies.
