I think i just figured out this disconnect here. Children like Comrade and Galt play video games on their computer so they need better specs etc etc. I just look at bikini pictures of Facebook, post here, listen to Kanye in iTunes, and maybe write a paper in word. Macbook did this perfectly fine in 2008 and does it perfectly fine today. I guess if I was playing dungeons and dragons or something then maybe I would need something newer.

I do think they're better, but it's also amusing to see how riled up the insecure people get. I probably won't be buying another computer for a long time. An iPad is enough for me. I don't even want a desk in my house.

I couldn't run an Apple in my business if I wanted to. That will change as programs move to the cloud. At that point operating system type will be pretty moot.

for my work the number one thing i need is large amounts of ram (for multiple workspaces) followed by a good processor. third, i would prefer faster disk so ssds are really nice, although not entirely necessary.

macs typically short people on ram and make it hard to add more yourself. if you want more, you pay a lot of money for it, but under 16gb of ram is unacceptable these days. macs typically have 4gb. many pcs do as well, but, they are easily upgraded

for play, yes, i want even more things, such as a graphics card, but i do very much need a beefy machine to work with or else it's unbearable. i typically have 4 workspaces open (each eclipse workspace takes around a gig on average of ram; some poeple put everything into one giant workspace... each way has its own positives and negatives though), plus lots of chrome tabs, plus i'm running some localhost servers, plus i have toad running which is a beast itself. i actually need that ram more for work than for play because im usually not playing multiple games at once
