currently my router is on my second floor, and under a desk. it's a wireless n router, and works fine for netflix and chill, but i'm thinking it wouldn't be able to send stuff through the floor to the steamLink like i want it to. steam link comes out next month, and i think it would be fun to see fallout being gloriously rendered on my computer upstairs and played on my 4k tv downstairs with the new steam controller which comes out the same day as fallout
it would be a large pain to wire cat5 cables, although it could be done from the attic. doing it would end with me wiring cat 5 cables over to where the router currently is as well, and moving the router to my laundry room, which is on my second floor, so i'd be putting wires everywhere. while im at it i might end up wiring each bedroom for good measure, plus a couple cables down to my living room. wondering about the (party) wall where i need to go down to the first floor, but i suppose it could be done, it'll just be a bitch.
alternatively, there's wireless AC. does anyone have wireless ac? if you transverse 10 feet vertically and 15 feet horizontally through a floor what kind of data transfer can you get with it? wireless ac isn't exactly cheap, but the cat 5 solution isn't exactly easy. steam "strongly recommends" a wired network, and reviews i've read about it has spoken of occasional lag with wireless and i'm wondering if i can deal with that if it means i can do without crawling around in my attic and fishing cables
