If I get an iPhone on AT&T as I understand it, my monthly data will not be unlimited. Does anyone have this? I know I use my smartphone to surf the net and send emails a lot but I have no idea how much data I'm actually using on a monthly basis so I can't tell if it will be a problem.

Truthfully I don't think that's a good study.
Not that you're necessarily wrong, but that's just not a good one.
Either way, smart phone data plans are all garbage except unlimited, especially if people don't really take advantage of unlimited.
