Yeah, totally just had a nerdgasm.
So f***ing incredible.
Humanity is the most badass species around. Just by belonging to the species, I feel good.

Yup. It's simply amazing. It's so hard to fathom that distance.

It puts alot into perspective.
I mean these things have travelled that far, and they are still NINE BILLION MILES from the sun.
When you consider it like that, you realize just how hot, massive and incredibly volatile the sun is. I mean to preserve the amount of energy needed to warm a planet from that distance... I mean Jesus. I understood this theoretically, but this article made me understand it on a more visceral level. Unreal.
I am so excited to see what happens when it leaves the solar system... that is the sort of data that is incredibly valuable.

Read up on Wikipedia, here is an interesting fact:
At a distance of about 123 AU (1.840×10 to the power of 10 km) as of November 2012, it is the furthest manmade object from Earth.
I mean what is that number. That is incredible.

Not bad for a bunch of curious primates that nearly went extinct

Is leaving the solar system not simply when the object starts orbiting the centre of gravity of the galaxy rather than the sun? That's how I always assumed it would be defined; when the gravity of the galaxy takes over that of the individual star.

I wonder if Sol's electro magnetic envelope shields Terra's electo-magnetic emissions. If so leaving it may make us detectable to whatever else is out there.
