AMD love their parallel computing. think your average AMD GPU has something absurd like 1000 cores in it now. With enough clock, speed. Tie enough of them together. Yeah. It' doable.

That is impressive. Anyone who was under the impression that their email and facebook passwords, among other online passwords, were safe just had no idea. Passwords should be long, intermixing symbols and so on. If your password is

for example. Much harder to crack. That's not likely to come up in a dictionary attack.

I'm also pretty sure that not too many people are going to be rolling across the net with a 25-GPU cluster.

All that hardware, defeated by a simple "You've had 3 failed password attempts and your account is now locked."

Or a "type in the name of the person in this random picture" for all subsequent password attempts.

If you allow someone infinite guesses, no matter how complex your password is, the only factor is time.

I think someone hacked into my account a few years ago and started posting nonsense online.

i would guess gmail doesn't have that exploit to garner those passwords lists. bigger problem of course would be banking, etc
