they are literally consuming resources for the sake of consuming resources. not to get any benefit whatsoever out of them. at least with stomach stapling you are limiting yourself etc.

as for "food addicts", then go for a run. i don't care if your gorge if you need the food. micheal phelps eats like half a cow a day

Humans, like all animals, simply follow the path of least resistance. In a society based on over consumption it is easy to objectively determine why the population is obese. The vast majority of human animals simply conform to the social milieu that is imposed on them. In the US circa 21st century this means obesity and consuming large amounts of low value foodstuffs.

Probably diabetes, as well.
