I've been thinking that this type of thing would be possible for a while. I didn't actually predict the "modification of memory" part. But, with advances in modern pharmaceuticals and virtual reality, I thought that the possibility of immersing someone in a VR chamber for a week while making them "think" they were in Aruba on the beach, or on Mars as a secret agent, would be possible.

The implications of this are astounding. Can you modify someone's memory to remove memories of an abusive parent? Perhaps that would severely cut down on rapists and serial killers.

that'll be fun for future law enforcement to deal with.

Finally a legitimate concept of "false consciousness" that isn't just a bunch of pseudoscientific gobblygook.

Duplicate thread. I've already posted this last week and it has already generated 400+ pages worth of discussions. Susumu Tonegawa himself even chimed in on the discussion.

I think this is a good thing. it will be the only thing you can use to protect yourself when the goverment shows up at your door with a warrant to read your thoughts.
