i had years ago a motoactv, which could be fashioned as a watch (or an armband, or clipped onto clothing...). what i liked about it was that it had GPS, music, and some running apps, with bluetooth. i was able to change my music or look at distance on the run and not have to take my phone out of the pocket on my arm. it also could route text messages from the phone to it, as well as calls
was it that useful? no. it was okay. with gps and music it only lasted about 4 hours. and it had more problems than that -- letting the battery drain all the way bricked the device for me, twice. second time, they gave me a full refund, after close to a year of use. thanks motorola, was good times
a watch with long battery life (few weeks) that could provide you with a number of things same as a phone but useful when going on long trips in the wilderness or something could come in handy. so what i'm trying to say is that you're right comrade: they have marginal uses at this time. in fact, the only thing i really think they are useful for is fitness tracking, of which there are others that are less expensive and more focused instead of the jack-of-all-trades smartwatches like the samsung or the apple watch
