Yeah Amazon is pretty much the only competitor to Apple because they have a solid store, like Apple does. They're taking the hardware, and customizing Android and the software, and using their store to distribute apps and digital downloads, like Apple. And because of that, they're successful.

I've been saying for along time now that if any company wants to compete on these mobile platforms (and eventually desktops as well) that they have to adopt this business model.

Amazon did. And now they're owning. Good job Amazon.

Don't forget the Nexus 7. By the time the holidays are over there will be millions of those things floating around.

I have a laptop and a smart phone and my TV at home doubles as a computer. Not really much I could use a tablet for. I might still get an e-reader with digital ink (been eyeballing the Nook with the light built in) just so I don't have to buy books any more.

I have quite a few friends that bought iPads and I don't think I've seen them actually use them for more than looking up youtube videos while watching TV.

Funny, maybe I'm just missing it but I can't find out anywhere what Android OS these will be running..

I read somewhere they 'think' it's 4.0.. What's that? ICS?

My Wife's making noises about wanting a tablet.. One of these could be it..

Ya, 4 is ICS, and the fire HD models will use it.

It really sounds like it suffers under the massive modifications Amazon as made to ICS in order to transform the device into an Amazon media conduit.
