Nobody has come up with a better way. SpaceX has a propulsive landing concept, but that's quite a ways off. Capsules just work. It's why everyone uses them.

it's crazy to think about but this is the first time in over 40 years a spacecraft made for humans has been beyond LEO. been a long time coming
