To clarify one thing, I never once, whether in past threads on this subject or this one, suggested that western observers should go and try to stop any cultural practices. So that's a bit of a strawman. All I've ever argued is that you can look at some cultural practices, do a basic cost/benefit analysis on the individuals (or victims, depending on how you see them), see the harm done, and objectively say "that practice is bad."

I didn't really mean YOU personally. I just didn't word my thoughts that well. I meant more along the lines of people from our culture in general tend to take a paternalistic or even disapproving view of different cultures. I think we should take more of a "Prime Directive" type approach with other cultures, especially primitives. So sorry about the misunderstanding.

And to Revenant, if something like the Nazis happen in another modern culture, that's obviously not a cultural difference that can be excused. lol

Nazism isn't an expression of Germanic culture values. Hitler was an iconoclast who destroyed German culture and replaced it with a monstrosity.

What I am worried about is that our culture tends to take something like female circumcision and use it to justify some pretty unsavory activities. Talk like that has often used to discriminate against or even demonize Arabic and/or Muslim cultures in order to justify our interventions in those lands. .
