To clarify one thing, I never once, whether in past threads on this subject or this one, suggested that western observers should go and try to stop any cultural practices. So that's a bit of a strawman. All I've ever argued is that you can look at some cultural practices, do a basic cost/benefit analysis on the individuals (or victims, depending on how you see them), see the harm done, and objectively say "that practice is bad."
