i would feel retarded saying "merry christmas" to someone who doesn't celebrate it. it's as awkward as when some dudebro rushes me in a bar and goes "BRUH YOU SEE DA [FOOBAW TEAM] MAKE DAT TOUCHDOWN BRUH?". with no frame of reference it's an awkward moment. happy holidays eliminates that.

What "Holiday" exactly would I be referring too when saying "Happy Holidays"? The one with Christmas lights, Santa, gift giving and a day off work? The one that is "coincidentally" at the same time of year that we have traditionally celebrated Christmas? They get a day off work because it is "Christmas Day", not because it is "Holi Day".

Countries have their core religions, and people need to realize this when immigrating to these countries. If I am in Israel, I am not going to loose my shit on somebody that makes reference to Hanukkah am I?
