The only rare resource I can think of that Earth has is habitat. We can sustain life (as we know it). Assuming aliens require similar or the same atmosphere to breath and live in, then we could be a hot commodity. Terraforming is just too expensive.

Well, if the space critters ever did show up, we would probably have to rewrite our already demented code of racism. But we should not make them feel alienated.

I've heard people say that it would be great for aliens to show up cause then we - humans - could all finally unite, by being against them.
