I personally think that man is one element, split into two by society. Society is a compromise of nature, an average expectation that will generally conflict with the nature of most people. Many will fail to internalize this difference and incorporate it into their being and rather treat it as an external influence that splits their physical nature from their mentality. I want to be X but I need to be Y. Rather than realizing that they truly want to be Y or that they really don't need to be Y, but some compromise between X and Y.

No I don't.
there's a big difference between the guy who has a kick ass day and is having a scotch on the rocks while listening to his fav jazz CD at night winding down and the guy who gets him from work at 5pm and has already drank 3 beers before he hit the door and whose entire point of drinking is to not remember the day.

Yoss, I think it is a false dichotomy. There are many great minds that were partial to occasional "stupefaction" now and again. Greatness and predilection toward using recreational drugs are not mutually exclusive in any way.
