I would have called the police. I wouldn't leave the girl with a mad kidnapper, that's for sure.

Nobody sane would steal a child under any circumstances. How long before he goes completely off his head and starts blaming her for not being his daughter but some kind of imposter?

The police would call in social services and hopefully help the mother sort out her life, or perhaps arrange for the girl to be fostered. I would not interfere in any other way.

That movie tweeked me too. Quite the moral dilemma. Can't say for sure, but I likely would have left the girl and turned a blind eye.

I've driven through that part of Dorchester before, pretty accurate description. Was one of the places I was told not live anywhere near when I was moving up this way. Lynn, Lowell, Lawrence and Worcester aren't much different either.
