Although we like to say were not, we are greedy and like to show it off. Latest display, a painting going for about 450 million. That would feed, educate, and house many. Is it really possible to survive in a finite world with such a disease?

i don't know how the sale price of a painting is a display of greed. opulence, yes, but a sign of greed? excessive greed s self centered and without limits, and does not empathize with others. it acts in a cold reasonable way about how to maximize everything for yourself. greed on display would be EA games putting microtransactions into a game you also buy. greed on display would be facebook not caring that russians helped sway an election in their echo chamber because they got paid. greed on display would be any one of Apple's annual events. but buying a painting? i don't think that's really greedy. i think that's f**k dumb.

It's a crazy world. Another example - Obama had a charity of his spend 20 grand on a portrait of Obama. Thoughts on that, spacemonkey?

Worth every cent. That is one of only twenty da Vinci paintings in the world. If I was a multibillionaire, I would scoop that shit up with no hesitation.
That said, yeah, belongs in a public gallery. Part of our common heritage.

No matter how fat your portfolio, you take zero to your dirtholio. If we ever go mad max, real value will be common sense and friends with common sense. A gold bar does little for a drowning man.
