Kevin Ware injury

Based on what I've heard about this injury, my macbre fascination isn't enough to make me want to see it.

It's like a goddamn garden trowel made out of bone sticking out of a second knee halfway through his shin.

Perhaps it's because I worked in an OR for a while, but I really don't see what the fuss is about. I mean, yeah - it looks like it hurts like hell. But, it's not my leg. So, why should I react to it?

So far, the only medical procedure that has had an effect on me was an amputation (because of diabetes). Even then, it wasn't the "procedure", but more the fact that an amputation is so permanent, and there is no hope of "recovery". It's just meant to prevent further bad, but you'll never recover from it.

The coolest one I ever saw was brain surgery. I wasn't allowed in the room, but the patient was semi-awake in a seated position while the neurosurgeon removed the back half of his skull. Then, to exactly pinpoint the area of the brain to be operated upon, the neuro would poke part of the brain with a stick and ask the patient what he felt. The patient would respond, "My elbow is hot" or "It's making my thumb move". Crazy stuff.

I also got to hold a man's heart in my hands as they stopped it from beating in order to do open heart surgery. I have never felt more humble than at that moment.

i saw it in slow motion as the leg was breaking and turned it off. it's terrible.

perhaps he did injure it a week before or something. i remember reading in a book about a runner who had actually broken their leg bone before a race but it did something like this during a race when they landed on it funny. it wasn't that there was a defect in the runner's bone structure, but rather that the injury was serve before hand but not treated. i apologize, i have no link for it nor can i remember exactly where it was. i believe it was in Born to Run though... I think.

otherwise, and the dude is right. there is something seriously wrong with this young man. bones just don't fall to pieces.

I cannot ever seein a compound feature in basketball before. Millions of jumps, some by yours truly playing ball, have ended with landing the same way without a compound fracture. Other injuries sure but not that.

I can't think of a single nba player who made it back to any success from a non contact injury or something similar to that. Shaun Livingston tore his knee up on a bad landing a d is 10% the player he was. Oren can't get back on the court and its been over 3 years I think. His knee snapped midair.

Kid's body is telling him it aint about that life. Just the way it is.
