That would make sense if the card was exclusive, but it's not. If I want the discount, I just get the card, as does anybody else.

Ralphs here is Kroger owned.
Their rewards card used to give back money to be used in the store. like $5 back every $200 or something. Plus 5 points for using each reusable bag (i think 1 point = 1 cent).
Now I get 20 cents off gas every 200 points at Shell Gas. But I usually use costco gas and the price is almost the same.
They do send me decent coupons in the mail designed specifically to my spending habits, so the brand of cereal or cheese I buy. Their prices have also dropped since they moved to the gas program over money back.
I don't mind it, really. i mostly only buy what's on sale there, anyway, since i have other small markets I frequent to purchase stuff like fruits and veggies.
