Another factor that may not be being considered here. Texas is not as "gun-friendly" as people might think. There's no open carry here and it wasn't until very recently that you could travel with a firearm in your car. And even with the new regulation carrying a weapon in your car can get dicey because cops don't like that law. Some districts ignore it and you could get screwed.
If you have a CHL it's a bit more friendly to you but it's a fairly costly and time consuming procedure that most people probably wouldn't bother with unless they had a specific reason to carry one.
Consequently there's not a lot of public firearms etc.
You definitely don't want to be a rootin' tootin' cowboy with an extravagant display of your firearms here because Texas IS all about one thing and that is catching people up in the system.
