You're just bummed that you aren't Denny Crane. I would say Allen Shore, but he's a bit of a pansy bleeding heart.

Your right tho. Its been cop show/lawyer show/doctor show (with various twists) for decades.

Scifi has been broader, ranging from Babylon 5 to Lost. So a scifi cop show is a fun diversion. Even scifi shows get formulaic...as you generally have a Leader/Doctor/Smart Guy trifecta in 90% of them.

If you challenge the audience with something new, mostly they don't watch your show and it gets cancelled. So...play it safe to survive. Thus...reality TV.

It's FOX. They don't do anything with any finess or artistry. The last good thing they did was The Tick, and they cancelled that after 9 episodes. All the well written jokes make the homers uncomfortable.

Fringe developed into a pretty cool show. John Noble's performance dominated the whole thing. There was also the X-Files, once upon a time.

The key seems to be to keep Fox out of it as much as possible. If not for their meddling, we might have had a decent run of Firefly.
