because i was gone over christmas and the way my driveway is around my house and how the wind piles it up, there is roughly 5 inches of compacted ice-snow on my driveway that i sure as shit am not shoveling. the plow can't get it off because it warmed up around christmas and since then has been like -20 out, and it's just been worse since. all the side streets near my house are covered in snow. it hasn't snowed in a few days and there's pretty much no snow on any major roads, just parking lots and the like

its actually amazing they got it off here. it's so cold salt doesn't really work. all the streets are stained white with the salt. it's been a pretty awful winter... my therm consumption was up double over last year. the great lakes are already over the normal amount of freezing for the year and it normally peaks in march. but causing a city to have people on the road for 18 hours commuting? that's ridiculous. in crazy blizzard can't see more than 50ft in front of you conditions i'd imagine it might take me a little longer to get home but nowhere neat those types of numbers

I went across the Hudson today, it's frozen.. Not 100% frozen across, being a river that's hard to do..There's a few 'streams' in the river that move fairly fast, so it's not frozen there.. But it's frozen like I haven't see it in many, many years..

Also what you said about the roads is pretty funny.. Same here, the black asphalt roads are all white with salt. Completely white..

It's going to be a bad Spring for the roads.. The real cold weather has already started to break the asphalt up alittle, then when it gets warm the ice and snow melts and then leaks into the cracks in the roads, it gets cold again and the water turns to ice, expands, then makes the cracks and potholes bigger, then rinse and repeat until the road is nothing but potholes..

I got some junk back there now.. Probably 300 lbs or so. I loaded it before Christmas, planning to take it to the dump.. But then the weather turned sh1tty, I'm old and I don't want to be outside in 10 degree weather, and I also thought like you, the weight will help anyway, so the junk is still there. I'm waiting till Spring until I dump it..
