Why do Republicans think having a large army equals having a strong army? Efficiency is key, not numbers. It's not like our military strategy is the same as the Soviets in WW2. They really need to let that birther shit go too. I know that some random Kenyan started the rumor that Obama was born there, but how believable can that really be? Suck it up for 8 years and cast votes for someone else when the time comes

I don't see how you can be for fiscal responsibility and maintaining our current levels of military spending simultaneously. We spend 4X more than any other country and relative to our GDP we spend more than almost every country, the exception being Saudi Arabia.

Our military spending will necessarily have to be higher simply because we have to be able to project power over oceans and maintain/defend an extremely long logistical chain to support said projection.

However...since the big land wars have drawn down...there isn't any good reason to keep the ground forces so pumped up. Navy and USAF will have to remain relatively large for strategic considerations... but we're constantly on a WW2 defense footing. Getting a little silly. Ike tried to tell us.
