I wouldnt call Brit pub grub sophisticated (Ive eaten roast, steak and kidney pie, sausage and mash and of course F&C at a few pubs when I went to the UK years ago) but its not bad as comfort food- its about on the same level as American mac and cheese and hoagies.

Yes. American food is fast food. We'd all starve to death if not for KFC.

Really annoying stereotyping is annoying.

In reality American food is little different than English, fundamentally. Its meat and potatoes and vegetables. We've taken on a lot of continental influence through immigration, as well as south of the border and Asian stuff, but no, American food is not something that comes in a paper bag. We eat more corn and less beans and are less likely to put savory ingredients in a crust. Basically, though, its all pretty similar.

Even with regard to fast food..considering the amazing zeal with which the rest of the world seems to keep on scarfing it down, it must be doing something right.
