I tip 20% as a minimum and will even go out of my way to tip in service industries where it is no longer expected - like retail. My sadistic better-than-though attitude is met, but more importantly as I keep up this trend, the staff quickly learn my name, and I get a nice amount of deals and free drinks.

The entire tipping system is bogus, though; but I'm of the commie mindset that minimum wage should be raised to something along $12/hour and that less exceptions should exist.

Why would I find statistics? You made the assertion, out of thin air.

I didn't say they bring home hundreds, I said they'd bring home around $120 for a six hour shift. All that takes is three tables in an hour, each tipping $5. Plus whatever wage they make per hour. Most servers are assigned three tables simultaneousy, and experienced servers can handle five.

That is supposed to be taxed, but often (mostly?) is not.
