My sarcastic posts are in response to you actually thinking that a company has a patent to basic shapes. At that point it's clear that there is no actual discussion to be had, because you start from a point of view that has nothing to discuss. In your mind, Apple has been granted a patent on rectangles with corners and you're upset about it. If you believe that to truly be the case, than I'm pretty much at a loss for words, due to the fact that it defies conventional logic (a patent office giving somebody a patent on shapes), and it doesn't account for the thousands of other phones that are produced in the shape of a rectangle with rounded corners. I'm not "mad" as you like to keep saying, because it doesn't bother me one way or another. I think patents are dumb, and couldn't care less who won what. I have a Samsung TV my first smartphone was a Motorola Droid X.

Complete with rectangle shape and rounded corners even.

It looks like every device all of those manufacturers make is a rounded rectangular cellular device with a screen that runs edge-to-edge, so I'm not sure what they are going to do. Maybe pay Apple royalties for their patent on basic shapes? Make circle phones?

That has yet to be seen. I expect the full repercussions of this won't be known for months or years.

In my opinion, Apple was just fulfilling the wishes of it's founder, Steve Jobs, who wanted to "go nuclear" on Samsung. Now that they have managed to screw their nemesis out of billions of dollars, based on patents that are absurdly prohibitive and anti-competitive, I expect they will back-off. They don't want that bad of a public backlash.

I'm glad that you have been able to admit that you were wrong, and that you have adopted a more reasonable tone eric. This is a big improvement eric. I am very proud of you, eric.

I'm very sorry to hear that eric. I thought we had made some real progress this time. I have provided a direct link to the patent, which Apple holds, that describes a rectangular, rounded-edge device. I have also provided a direct link to a reputable tech site that clearly states that Apple argued that it held exclusive rights to rectangular, rounded-edge cellular devices, and that the jury found in their favour. To which you responded with a number of very angry posts, none of which addressed my points, but all of which are based on some absurd hypothetical of Apple suing every phone manufacturer in the industry, rather then just going up against the company that presents the biggest threat and whom Apple has a great deal of animosity towards. I have also described my opinion for why this is the case: they do not want to suffer huge public backlash, so they are unlikely to press much further on the issue of rectangular, rounded-edge devices, because just about everyone has admitted how foolish it is for them to have a patent for such a design.

If you aren't willing to admit that you were wrong, and you can't engage my points in a reasonable way, I see no reason to continue our discussion. The best of luck to you in the future, and God Bless.

footnote: the droid phones aren't really similar to the iphone because they have the retarded camera bump on the back... alot of android phone manufacturers aren't going to be under any threat by apple because they can't make a phone attractive enough to compete for apple's business.

Haha. Okay. Apparently being directly linked to the patent in question, and Apple arguing in court that they do in fact have exclusive rights to rounded corners rectangular devices, and then actually winning the argument isn't enough. Unreal.
