The bits are already on your hard drive, so it's just a question of going to our [online] store and buying the game, and then it's instantly available to play.
That says it all, I think. Every game has to be associated with an account to play, and so there is no loaning the game, as it can't be run without the associated account. You'd have to buy it to get it associated with your account. That torpedoes rentals...and torpedoes my interest in the system.
They'd have to have "jailbroken" copies of the games to distribute to the likes of Gamefly, which could be run independent of account. But of course...how could they do that...that would just be the key for piracy.
