About 10 years ago we brought friends of ours who live upstate to Manhattan for 3 days.. They never been they before.. They live in a little town of about 4,000 people near the Adirondacks.. They are about as far from big city people as you can be..

They loved it.. They even went back, by themselves a few times since then..

NYC is NOT for everyone. But if you go there with an open mind, and just go with the flow and are a person who likes a good time, and don't mind being fleeced by the ridiculous prices.. It is a fun place.

I spent a summer living with my Aunt in Stuy town in the late 80's, I was 11 and she went to work and left me alone in the apartment (and she didnt keep any food in the fridge because she wanted to lose weight so I was starving too) for most of the day, there was a crank caller that kept calling the phone and I kept answering it, I was also scared to death of the subway because I was watching The Warriors and Rosemary's Baby on cable so I was trapped, and you could hear everyone arguing from their apartment windows outside and it was hot and humid as hell- ugh, NYC was one of the worst experiences of any city in my life- one big disgusting sardine can.

Williamsburg is the hipster capital of the world. It is truly a terrible place. I really actually like Greenpoint though, but the hipsters are beginning to spread there, like a cancer. It won't be long before Greenpoint sucks too.
