I used to really like Nova, on PBS. Just a show about something with solid narration. Now the show can't just have narration, but it has to have some sort of insipid zany host on camera who acts like a moron and who you pretty much want to punch in the face for douchebaggery the whole time.
Just do narration, rather than waste time and IQ points on some clown who's there because.....why?

Nat Geo always has great stuff
History Channel still has some good older stuff
BBC is always on point
And I will tell you what, Al Jazeera does some great documentaries about modern political issues. Like Bolivian drug lords and Maoist rebels in India and such.
