moby dick, classic american literature, took a generation after the death of Melville before it became appreciated at all. it was almost 100 years before it became regarded with respect at all, and now it's the Great American Novel. this is because it's themes transcend. sure we're not whaling anymore, but seeking revenge upon god, nature, the universe, etc, will most certainly drag you down to your doom
