That is one way to look at it... The other is that English has become dominant precisely because it is so easily adapted to common use. No other language evolves so much in so little time. It is a good thing.

you don't need to admit it. you don't need to admit that irregardless is an understandable term, but the majority of people, even if they hate it, know what someone is saying when they use it. the common understanding of a word is not dependent on any one individual not understanding it.
and yes, they do understand it. if you tell someone an animal is venomous or poisonous they aren't going to do anything to it either way.
