What we see here is a classic example of why programs can't get cut, no matter how small. It's only .xxxxxxxx% of the entire budget whatever that miniscule percentage is their cry.
Well multiply that number by thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, whatever, and it adds up. There are so many programs going on right now that nobody probably has an even close to accurate count.
I do agree that with tens or hundreds of billions in wasteful spending should be the target, the real culprit is entitlements. But they have become, thanks to the politicians that benefit from them, the third rail.
In regards to defense spending. Yes, there is considerable spending that isn't necessary and should be targeted for cuts but it's one of those things we may very well regret doing if the cuts gut our military to the point that we put our nation at risk in the event major war breaks out.
