I'm just saying, you couldn't have picked a worse video to demonstrate athleticism. You really couldn't have. It was basically fifteen minutes of offensive footwork and penalty kicks. Which are impressive in a way that is decidedly not athletic.

It's like if I were to showcase the athleticism of professional hockey players by choosing a shoot-out highlight reel. Or fifteen minutes of them skating backwards.

Indeed, if I were to do that, any hockey fan would assume that I'm a casual viewer whose strength of opinion in no way, shape or form matches the depth of his knowledge.

What records is the Women's World Cup smashing? Only previous Women's world cup viewing records, which should be obvious given the marking they are throwing behind it. It's also only in America, which again, isn't surprising because most viewers are not soccer fans and the US Women's team is probably the best in the world. No one really watches many of the games outside of the US. Women's soccer, while it can be entertaining, is about on part with U18 world cup or something, it's just not top level soccer and will never command similar viewership. Plus, the US team this year is really easy to dislike. A bunch of unpatriotic players beating up on semi-pro teams from third world countries... ugh if it were any other nation I would happily root for their downfall, and honestly I wouldn't be upset if France beat them.

Messi is athletic enough but he really is a skilled player. Soccer is great like that, some players dominate through athleticism, some through skill, some have both in heaps. Most impressive now (messi and ronaldo aside) probably has to be VVD. Guy is an athletic beast, commands an organized defense, great skill... he is the complete package, like having Lebron on defense or something.

Harden is not Trash and yes, almost all of the better teams are floppers in soccer. It's a latin thing or something, they all dive and cheat even though they are also some of the best in the game. But you have to love Sergio Ramos, a master of the dark arts and the anti-flopper of the soccer world. The guy can break your arm and get away with it, and he will do JUST THAT in order to win. There is no ice in spain, but he is one of the players you just know would love to be able to duke it out hockey style if the rules allowed it.

HURF knows literally nothing about sports. The sort of manlet you run into at a party who parrots nate silver bullshit and who thinks the US womens team would actually beat the mens. Guy hasn't so much as kicked a soccer ball or stepped on a basketball court in his LIFE.

Dijk is a great player. Liverpool is meh, but I enjoy watching them. Salah is good too. Messi is widely regarded as the greatest contemporary player and possibly the best of all time.

Harden is trash on account of how shameless his flopping and charging is which puts even the worst in international football to shame.

I know plenty about sports, certainly more than necessary. I played center mid up through HS and have played in some regional clubs sporadically. I've also played basketball since elementary and still go ball and get into pickup games on the local courts. I stopped playing baseball in elementary because I f**k hated it, even more boring to play than to watch. I stopped playing football in middle school after an injury sustained from it and not enjoying it as much as soccer, basketball, cross country, and track & field. One on one in soccer isn't a thing, but you're certainly not on my level and I'd take you one on one in basketball any day of the week.
