What is the appeal of baseball?

Of course in an ideal world, a hitting coach would want to ask all his hitters toswing for the fences on every pitch and get a homerun, but that doesn't happen. You can't put together an entire lineup of power hitters nor should you. Further, homeruns are kind of boring. Yeah they're exciting in the sense that it's an automatic score, but a manufactured run is actually way more interesting for the seasoned viewer. I'd much rather watch someone draw a walk, steal second and get driven home on a line drive than see a solo homer.

I enjoy for many reasons.. BUT the biggest reason is IMO there is no harder feat in all of sports then watching a professional batter trying to hit a little round ball going 95 mph's with a little round bat..

It is the ultimate cat and mouse game. No matter how good the hitter is he can't just go up there and swing away.. He needs to guess, he needs to make a decision to swing, or not to swing in 2/5th of a second.. And on the other side the pitcher just can't throw 95 mph fastballs all the time.. The batters at the Major League level are so good they will and can hit 95 mph pitches.. The pitcher needs to fool the batter..

Hitting in the Major Leagues has to be hard, guys who fail to get a hit 7 out of 10 times are considered the best.
