I was there a couple of years ago. Everything's as you remember. Tons of casinos now on the Canadian side.

And the whirlpool--nobody ever knows to go look at the whirlpool, which is awesome in itself.

LOL I never realized all that Exploited.

I remember the bar thing--how they close early. We ended up going to a booze can after-hours, which was hilarious (non-Canadians: booze can is their term for a speakeasy or unlicensed after-hours bar).

I recall that the harbor area where we stayed was beautiful--watching the boats all day and the planes flying in and out from the city airport.

I also remember that it was EXPENSIVE. Like NYC expensive.

It's a terrible city. I have a friend who is making $90k a year and there is no way he could afford a house there. A shitty bungalow in the ghetto is gonna be at least $500,000. On top of that, you can't get anywhere reasonably without a car, and even that is a mess, creating some of the worst traffic I've ever seen.

Words cannot express my disdain for Toronto. It is a blight on this planet.

Wow. I didn't realize the public transportation was so dire for such an international city. I did see shared bikes there for the first time ever, which are now huge in NYC as Citibikes and here as Divvy.

So what Canadian city can I look forward to? I take it Vancouver?

Galt: you're right. IMO the only cities in America where you can reasonably live without a car are here and NYC--although I've not yet been to Boston or Seattle.

Hey Exploited the other thing I remember about Toronto is the TON of high-rise condo buildings as you drive into the city (or out). They go on for miles and miles and all I could think was--who can afford these? A lot of them seemed uninhabited.
