"The market" usually refers to an actual market place, with market stalls, where producers come in and sell their wares directly to consumer. A grocery store is something else entirely.

There are places around here that meet usually once a week called "farmer's markets." But places like Raely's, WinCo, Safeway, they are grocery stores.
