i've said this before, but it's a very american attitude.

not just "i have it so whatever happens, happens" but "i have it and i don't want other people to have it"

for whatever reason americans, on average, take that extra step of inequality in that we can't accept other people having it. it being whatever it is they don't have.

we do it with rights, social programs, etc.
