to be fair it was a kids movie as the hobbit is a kids book while LotR is more a book aimed at more adult readers. making it like LotR would be untrue to feeling of the book
that said, f**k rabbits. rhadaghast pulled me out of it entirely. i wasn't in it that much to begin with -- the begining was rather uninteresting and then the dwarf dance number with the plates that was absurd and uncalled for. but rhadaghast, while a hermit type who saurumon considered to be a fool, he didn't have a rabbit sleigh. the cgi involved with that was entirely like star wars, which are all kids movies. in fact all the cgi heavy stuff was all kiddie type things: chase sequences. they were drawn out and very silly, all of them, and mostly unnecessary additions to the book that subtracted from the movie
the cgi with gollum though, i thought that was beautifully done. that entire scene with him was great
