Anyone who's dumb enough to put themselves in a position where they may have to drive impaired deserves no sympathy.

The roads are getting more crowded every year, and more distractions invented every year. Back when I was a professional drinker, the roads were way less crowded, and the cops wouldn't bother you unless you were screwing up. Needless to say, those days are long gone, never to return.

I've driven home drunk many a time. Stupid thing to do, no doubt, but I would say that nearly every night after work I'd have been legally drunk when I drove home from the bar back in 2000/2001. Now, that doesn't mean I was impaired to the point where I couldn't drive safe enough. I never got in a wreck and wasn't at the point of being about to pass out or anything. I have to be way over .08 before my driving (and judgement) are impaired, even now when I don't drink as often. Back then, hitting 8 beers a night at the bar from 12:30 to 2am was no big deal and I'd come home and drink some more. 8 was just getting started for the night.

The .08 for some is nothing, for others probably to much. It really needs to be more on individual situations rather then an arbitrary number on a sensor. Were they speeding, driving reckless or not, that should all factor in, but it don't. Its the arbitrary number, and one size (number) don't fit all.
