Zero Dark Thirty:
Good movie. The director does a good job of making this film purely what it's about. To understand what I mean, think about Pearl Harbor (The shitty Disney remake) or Behind Enemy Lines. This movie is not like either of those. I'd go so far as to say this film does the best job it can to keep you uncomfortable and unsure of whether you're actually enjoying/approving of what's on the screen. The jokes are few, the movie is dead serious, and it's kinda draining. And it's not draining because it's bad, it's draining because of what it's about, how it's portrayed, and how much death there is. At the end of the film there's a scene with the protagonist sitting on a plane...and tears go down the face...to me that was as much of a scene about closure as it was thinking about all that was lost in the process.
The opening sequence is haunting. I won't say what it is but I will say it's real. And I think it does a far better job of making you uneasy than any camera time could've. Hearing them...
So yeah, good movie. I'm trying to not spoil anything here.
