Playing Battlefield 3 again. Or trying to. The game crashes to desktop randomly every 5 mins to 2 hours. Still cannot pinpoint the problem. The last game that had a problem like this was Path of Exile and it ended up being an issue with my sound card. They said they couldn't figure out how to fix the problem.
The solution was to turn off anything and everything that made any kind of noise, including Skype and Steam. Any time anyone would log on/off of those and a noise was generated, the game would crash and the sound card would crash and then I'd have to restart Windows because nothing would work right. Didn't have this problem when I originally got BF3 so I'm not sure what has changed. Sound card works fine with everything else I have ever played.
I hate to get rid of it because it was $200. Going to upgrade my RAM and motherboard in the very near future so I'm hoping this is a motherboard issue as my mobo is whack. It works, but I had to rig some of the settings (such as cpu clock speed, voltage, RAM voltage, etc). Not a bios issue either - its just a board problem that they refuse to address and since the mobo is nearing 5 years old at this point, they aren't going to fix it. The solution is simply "get a new mobo".
Blargh.
