I, too, have somewhat limited sympathy. But, for another reason.

He was found because he was late to pick up his kids from his estranged girlfriend, he never showed up, and they sent someone to find out why. And, there's my problem. He was supposed to pick up his kids, and he decided to get high instead?

Frankly, if I'm to choose between him being high and picking up his kids, and him being dead, I'll go with dead.

They found him with a needle in his arm so that may very well be true that he was gonna get high before picking up the kids.

Also as com pointed out it seems a lot of the issues are regarding purity and what the drugs are mixed with on the street. In the case of Hoffman's heroin they're saying it was mixed with 50% fentanyl. If drugs were legalized and subject to regulation there might be less risk. But again I have very little knowledge. Regardless as I've said before, it's a tragic death as is the case with self-destruction in general.
