I think it is important to note that American conservatives are easily the dumbest pool of people on the planet, and so I can see why insurers would be hesitant to give discounts on any larger pool that included them. Ironically the best argument against national health insurance is the person making any argument against national health insurance.
Phosphide, those rates of chronic disease exist in Canada, the UK and most of the Western world. 2 out of 3 Canadians will develop a chronic disease. Furthermore, costs of any program, no matter what it is about, always rotate primarily around worst-case users. This can be said about employment insurance or welfare or emergency room visits or literally any other program.
Nonetheless, we will spend far less per capita and as a percentage of GDP as you do.
