Still can't fathom why you'd think a massive company that has a diverse product line would falter on the basis of a single device, especially considering its likely to outsell its predecessor, which sold 77 million units, and was the dominant player in every market in the world but the US. Especially considering the price advantage, which has historically been the number one sales driver.
I mean...MS lost 3 billion dollars on the 360. Software sales didn't make nearly enough of a dent to cover the RROD f**k and the manufacturing costs alone. Is MS going to go under?
Sony ate a multibillion dollar loss as well, even more than MS iirc, but its kinda become the nature of this business.
All this fanboi hyperbole about the extinction of entire corporations because their device merely took a 50% marketshare. I mean, wow. 77 million units.
Dominated.
In America we have an extremely distorted view of the console segment because we live in the singular "Xbox bubble." Step back and look at this thing holistically and consider. Whats going to happen this generation will be just like the last one. One brand will edge out the other for a while, then it will go the other way, etc etc, and the final sales totals will probably be within a few percent of each other.
Its going to be the better part of a decade before we know what happens.
My entire problem with the Xbox 180 has pretty much been solved. If Sony outsells it, I guess that means MS is going to go under? Like...if GM sells more cars than Ford....Ford is going under? Bah. Sony's problems are more about their other market segments than entertainment. They just keep sucking at tablets and phones, in particular. They're spinning off their entertainment business in order to raise money to refocus other areas. Because their entertainment business is strong enough to pull that little maneuver. The really profitable sections of their business, movies and financial, are chugging along nicely, and the company is coming down off of a profitable quarter for the first time in quite a while. This year actually looks pretty good for Sony, if the guidance is any indication. People are kinda sitting on SNE. Looks like its going to bottom out relatively soon.
Meh. Hyperbole is.
