It will be the 5th time ever in NFL history that it's happened, though the 3rd time in the last 5 years. That's assuming the winner is 6-10, which is far from certain.

There's been an argument made for 3 wildcards, and limiting the first round bye to only the #1 seed. I'm surprised it's not getting more play since every playoff game has to be insanely lucrative for the league. I also wouldn't mind it too much, though I think there are already a lot of teams in the playoffs and don't know if we need more. But that would surely take care of every "more deserving" team out there.

I don't even like that baseball added another wildcard. Baseball is the way that it is because there are 3 bigger divisions per league as opposed to the 4 smaller ones per conference in the NFL. But now we're talking about as many wildcard spots as there are division champs. But with 3 division champs and 2 wildcards per league, you already have 10/30 getting in which is a suitable amount, and not all that far off from what the NFL currently has with 12/32. We see what a joke playoffs are in the NBA where making the playoffs isn't even an accomplishment, and it's why I am weary of adding more in any other sport.
